State of the State’s Finances

Ouch! might be a good way to start this blog because it looks like Texas’ budgeting process for the next biennium is going to painful – painful for those who set the budget and painful for those of us in public education who must live it out.

In an article that appeared in the Dallas Morning News (Legislature likely to cut deep to meet possible $25 billion budget gap, October 25, 2010, by Robert T. Garrett) the first paragraph reads, “Texas faces a budget crisis of truly daunting proportions, with lawmakers likley to cut sacrosanct programs such as education for the first time in memory and to lay off hundreds if not thousands of state workers and public university employees.”

Ouch!
