Who would have predicted that North Texas would have been hit with winter weather that would shut down schools four days in a row (February 1 – 4, 2011)?
There is one primary factor when it comes to making a decision to cancel classes: The safety of our adults (faculty and staff, and parents (transporting their children to and from school)) and children (students). Many factors enter into the decision, but it is safety and safety alone that drives the decision.
My guess is that omniscience would help when making the decision. But for us human beings that is just not possible. So, with as much information as is possible to gather a call is made. Sometimes we get it right, and sometimes we don’t. But in all cases, safety is first.
