The MISD budget process involves two types of board meetings: (1) workshops, and (2) regular or special board meetings. Workshops are official board meetings in which ideas can be considered and discussed, but action (votes) can not be taken. Regular or special board meetings are official board meetings in which ideas can be considered and discussed, and action (votes) can take place.
Board workshops to consider and discuss the 2011-12 budget and budget-related items are scheduled for the months of March, April, May, and June. The budget is scheduled to be adopted in June. Decisions that could impact the budget can be made at board meetings scheduled in March, April, and May.
That’s the “when” of the budget process.
Now, what about the “what ” of the budget?
The MISD budget process gives plenty of opportunity for ideas to be considered and discussed prior to the creation of a proposed budget. So, without the discussions, the “what” of the proposed and, eventually, the adopted budget is not set.
