Midlothian ISD’s assistant principals participate in an Assistant Principal Academy. In the 2010-11 school year, there is one Academy session for the first semester and two sessions in the spring semester. One of the tasks in the first meeting was to answer three questions: (1) Why did you become an educator?, (2) What’s the best thing about being [an assistant] principal?, and (3) What’s really special about your school? Each Assistant Principal will be featured in a separate blog with the answers to the questions.
Mrs. Becky Thompson is an assistant principal at Midlothian High School.
Q: Why did you become an educator?
My high school teachers had a hugely positive influence on me, and I wanted to give back what was given to me by the teachers who cared for and inspired me.
Q: What’s the best thing about being [an assistant] principal?
I love getting to the “big picture” view of the way our campus operates. I feel like I can have a broader impact on the campus climate as an administrator.
Q: What’s really special about your school?
We have awesome students who enjoy coming to school, and we have extremely talented teachers who are devoted to providing a quality education to our students.
