Nick Ackerman: A Very Special Athlete and Person

The Midlothian Mirror has been very generous. The paper created a place for me (Jerome Stewart, Ed.D., Superintendent, Midlothian ISD) to write and have published a monthly column titled, Soup Notes. The the column is submitted to the Mirror before or on the last Friday of each month. It is published the following week.

By Friday, July 29, 2011, I will send to Mr. Neal White, Editor, the August Soup Notes. The article is about a very special collegiate athlete, Nick Ackerman, and lessons to be learned from who he is and what he accomplished.

Nick’s most famous athletic accomplishment was named one of the 25 most defining moments in NCAA history (ESPN), and the Number One most dramatic NCAA Championship Victory (NCAA Champion Magazine). Quite an accomplishment for an athlete who lost the lower half of both legs as a baby (bacterial meningitis).

Before too much information is given away, I will stop and hope that if you read the column you will enjoy the story and the message.
