At Midlothian ISD we have a great team of administrators – principals, assistant principals, and leaders of various departments. That fact was evident at the annual administrative retreat held August 3 and 4 (2011) at central office (L. A. Mills Administration Building).
A lot of learning took place. We discussed the Goal Focus for the upcoming school year – It’s all about learning. The district’s vision statement is, “To be the leading learning organization in the nation.” That statement was used as a platform. Consequently, we are set to learn more about (1) learning organizations, (2) design teams, (3) new state assessments, and (4) the “new normal” for education in Texas.
Other topics that were on the agenda included: AYP Accountability Update, “Engaging Students” (book study – Dr. Schlechty’s newest book), 5-E Model (presented by MISD Teachers), Legislative Update (Mr. John Hardy, MISD School Attorney), Energy Education Presentation (MISD Energy Manager, Craig Carpenter), Accountability Manual (MISD Department of Learning), and The New Norm – Roundtable Discussion.
Dr. Eric Cupp gave an inspiring talk the morning of our second day.
What is so encouraging about our administrative team is the collective heart that is on display. They all are in education for the right reason: a love of kids.
