Veterans Day (November 11, 2011): A Personal Note

Veterans Day has great meaning for the Stewart family. All four of our children have served or are serving in the United States Military. They are:

Elliott Stewart

Gabe Stewart

Sgt. Elliott Stewart (veteran), 2nd Lieutenant Gabriel Stewart, Army Ranger Eric Stewart, and Airman Jennifer Stewart.

Eric Stewart

Jennifer Stewart

We have received the calls that no parent wishes to get.

Several years ago, Gabe trained with the National Guard of Texas. Early one morning the phone rang. We were informed that there had been an accident. Two died; Gabe had been seriously injured. The good news is that he recovered from the injuries.

Then, almost one year ago, Eric called from Afghanistan and told us not to worry. He had been injured. While on a mission, a grenade, thrown by the enemy, had exploded near him and he had caught some shrapnel. [Note: Eric, a purple heart recipient, is OK, but his status is pending].

Yes, Veterans Day has great meaning for the Stewart family.

God bless our veterans and those who currently serve this great nation in the military.
