Mr. Football 2011: Johnathan Gray

Johnathan Gray, senior Aledo tailback, is the recipient of the 2011 Mr. Football USA award. The recognition is for the nation’s outstanding on-field player.

Not only did Gray win the award this year, but last year (2010) he was the first junior to be named Mr. Football USA.

To put this recognition in perspective, here are the previous Texas running backs named Mr. Football USA: Earl Campbell (1973), Billy Sims (1974), Eric Dickerson (1978), and Cedric Benson (2000).

Why would I write a blog about another school’s football player?

First, because Gray played in Midlothian ISD’s Multipurpose Stadium on December 3, 2011, in the State Quarterfinals Playoff Game.

And second, because that game, played in MISD’s stadium, was made possible, in part, through the initiative of our athletic director, Mr. Steve Keasler.

Thank you Mr. Keasler for bringing such a high-profile game to Midlothian.

More pictures from that game can be viewed at (direct link) Football (Aledo v Stephenville) UIL (Playoffs 2011).
