On the morning of Nov 21, 2012, I visited the Dallas Arboretum. It was a beautiful day and thousands of people were there.
Most local school districts were not in session that week, so many school-aged children and their parents were among the visitors.
At one point in time, I was near a family of three – a father, mother and their first- or second-grade son. The young boy saw a group of elementary school-aged children. The children were all dressed alike, in one long line with several adult chaperones shouting out commands.
The young boy looked at his parents, not fully appreciating where he was, and longing for the “good old days” sighed, “I wish I were in school today.”
