Graham Cracker Dwellings

IMG_6438_2Ms. Sarah Hardin’s engineering class at Midlothian High School is engaging … and a lot of learning happens, too.

For the annual Graham Cracker Dwelling Contest, students construct dwellings out of – well, that’s an easy guess – graham crackers. Frosting is used for the artistic finish.

Students compete for four awards: TEXAS AWARD (largest structure); EINSTEIN AWARD (most creative use of resources); HARDIN AWARD (most aesthetically pleasing); and the INCREDIBLE HULK AWARD (strongest structure).

To win the INCREDIBLE HULK AWARD, the graham cracker dwelling must bear the most weight. Last year the winning structure supported 1,200 pounds!
