The “PTA Rule” In Adult/Teenager Conflict

Adult - Teen Conflict

According to Hardy and Laszloffy in Teens Who Hurt,
the “PTA Rule” can help in adult/teenager conflict.

The PTA rule assert that parents, teachers, therapists, and other adults must be ‘stronger’ and ‘healthier’ than the adolescents with whom they interact (p. 129).

Invoking the PTA Rule means that the adult recognizes that it is his or her responsibility to find the strength, courage, and patience to respond in ways that deescalate conflict (p. 135).
